Gave  you a name.

But you threw it away.

Took a cartoon Characters for the rest of your natural born days.

Found your mother in the bath after swallowing just one and a half bottles of Ibuprofen and a tall glass of gin.

An emergency call didn’t save you at all from a motherless childhood, she recovered she left within a week.

And there was nobody you’d know who’d place you in the bow and shoot you up in to the air straight strong like an arrow.

Before your eyes, before your very eyes.

And the realization of this self invention would allow you to fit in just about anywhere like clean fresh air.

Your grandmother took you under her wing, but a hard life and old age just helped help the feathers to keep falling.

She placed one in your cap, but you couldn’t work it out why the taste in your mouth was such a sour one.

You placed her in the soil so safe and sound, and realized that your ship that was coming in had probably run aground.

Before your eyes, before your very eyes.

Chorus:

If you look you’ll see how he blends in, he has this very special skin.

Right before your eyes you’ll see this gift of Chameleon skin.

Right before your eyes

It’s right before your eyes.

Left the mother land when it became too intense.

Returned within a month with and awfully lot less, than you actually left with.

Met and married and divorced within a year, had a daughter named after the only one who ever really cared.

Placed a feather in her hair as you kissed her goodbye, and walked into yet another brand new crisp life.

Before her eyes, before her very eyes.

And if I would ever see you again, you would probably see me and just start changing.

And I may have even been in the very same room, you see me, and just start changing all too soon.

Before my eyes, before my very eyes.

SHARKS

Sharks Ian Bell www.ianbellacoustic.com BMI 2011

We are as unstable as two boys on a boat.

Far, far from land now the oar’s have dissolved.

When you get thirsty will you drink the sea.

So the Sharks lay on the coral, instead of circling me.

Untrustworthy as two drunks on a ship.

Lost the main sail retained the jib.

When you get thirsty will you drink the sea,

So the Sharks lay on the coral instead of circling me.

Chorus:

Where shall we go, God only knows?

And will we float? maybe not in these clothes.

Is there any hope?

Oh but when it rains I’ve been told it will fill up the sea.

When it rains I’ve been told it will fill up the sea.

When it rains I’ve been told it will fill up the sea

So the sharks will resume,

Circling me.

We are as cracked as the ships figure head.

Crashing through the waves to our watery grave.

If we sink before we site land.

We’ll lay on the sea bed in sheet s of sand.

Names And Faces

Names and Faces   Ian Bell  WWW.ianbellacoustic.com BMI 2011

I’ve been away, I never left the room.

And I heard say Dreamers drift like balloons.

Both hands on the wheel, I’ll turn around soon.

Chorus

Back to the hustle and the bustle of the never ending corners we throw ourselves in.

And I’m lying through My teeth when I tell you we’ve all the time in the world.

Who’ll throw the roses, who’ll scatter the soil, who’ll remember how blue our eyes were?

I don’t remember names, just faces.

And I’ve been one million miles away.

Floated  in just five minutes of this day.

Both hands on the keys,  blown back with the breeze.

Chorus:

Back to the hustle and the bustle of the never ending corners we throw ourselves in.

And I’m lying through My teeth when I tell you We’ve all the time in the world.

Who‘ll throw the roses, who’ll scatter the earth, who’ll row the boat out from the shore?

I don’t remember names, just faces.

Just  those faces.

Big Wind

Big Wind    Ian Bell    WWW.ianbellacoustic.com BMI 2011

There’s a big wind coming.

It’s gonna lift you off your feet.

And in those borrowed shoes with the tread half used, it won’t adhere you to the street.

There’s a big blow coming, it’s been building up for years.

You said you felt it in your bones, but you’ve only just really known since it blew your hair out of place.

Chorus:

Big wind all your friends are running.

Grinding the gold in their teeth.

Whispering under their salty breaths.

You’ll have trouble with your new leaf, he’ll have trouble with that new leaf.

There’s a big change coming, adhere goggles and gloves for sure.

A length of lasso rope is your only hope to secure the stem to the floor.

There’s a shakeup coming, take only what you can hold.

When you’re far away from home without that warm Navy coat, it always starts to blow.

Chorus:

Big wind all your friends are running.

Grinding the gold in their teeth.

Whispering under their salty breaths.

You’ll have trouble with your new leaf, he’ll have trouble with that new leaf.

Bridge:  Your new leaf is the biggest,  one the tree ever knew, your new leaf is the biggest one the tree ever grew, one the tree ever knew, ever grew.

There’s a big gust coming, fasten your top button.

Take stock in all the values you had before, and the wind may not lift you from the floor.

There’s a howler rolling, coming from your old home.

Pull your collar up and your hat way down, are you ready now to brave the storm.

Chorus:

Big wind all your friends are running.

Grinding the gold in their teeth.

Whispering under their salty breaths.

You’ll have trouble with your new leaf, you’ll have trouble with your new leaf.

Six The hard Way

Six The Hard Way   Ian Bell  www.ianbellacoustic.com BMI 2011

Stiletto heels sank in the Grass.

You missed your taxi cab now an hour has pasted.

Your knight in shining amour rusted in the rain.

Waited five minutes for you, then was swept up again.

All the round pegs marry all the round holes.

In Ceremonies under triangular roofs.

Equilateral so everything seems so fair, doesn’t seem so fair from where you’re standing here.

Chorus

And the Sign writers paint just won’t dry.

Spelt your name wrong in the lettering style you liked.

Block and tackle split pulling your name up under lights to tell us you’ve arrived.

And you whisper somebody hold me, wrap those long loving arms around me, I’m tired and the makeup has escaped from my face, and I’ll try to throw six the hard way.

I’ll try to throw six, six the hard way.

In square toed shoes you twirl around the dance floor.

Hoping opportunity will knock just once more.

You said you’re here for the bouquet with those hands in the air.

They said it wilted and they threw it at half pasted the hour.

With handfuls of cake you sliced through crowds to the door.

You’re on nobodies arm, and those ankles are sore.

But the wind whips and blows you back in to the hall.

And the cake hits the ground, before the napkin touches the floor.

It’s a long walk home and you’re tired and you’re wet.

You need an arm crossed your shoulder, a peck on that forehead.

You need somebody to hold you so tight.

Somebody to throw six the hard way tonight.
